GENERAL CHAPTER

One of the highest awards of the Order of the Jerusalem Cross is the title of Baron of the Order bestowed by the Supreme Ruler. The title is not hereditary. The Barons of the Order are the closest advisers to the Supreme Ruler, members of the General Chapter of the Order. The number of Barons of the Order is limited and amounts to 7 persons. This rule was adopted in remembrance of the fact that the Kingdom of Jerusalem had 7 vassal states established by the crusaders in the Holy Land. Studying and preserving the traditions of the Crusaders, the Order considered it possible to combine the titles of barons with the historical name of the states formed as a result of the 1st Crusade. This decision does not encroach on territories that do not belong to the Order. This is a reconstruction of the great past, as an example to all those who are proudly ready to bear the name of a crusader. We wish the Barons of Antioch, Galilee, Sidon, Transjordan, Tripoli, Edessa, and Jaffa to always be worthy of the high titles bestowed on them and to increase the glory of the Order by their actions.
